• you might still see a Windows Defender SmartScreen warning when installing DokuMate manually and

Fixes

• No Internet Connection When Proxy Authentication is Required. This maintenance release adds settings for automatically configured proxy servers. This will enable Internet access for DokuMate so that services requiring an Internet connection will work for users behind proxy servers that require authentication. With the new settings, those users will be able to use the online activation, update DokuMate automatically, and use the SharePoint-related features (which might require additional admin consent, however).
• License Activation Dialog Displayed Repeatedly. In certain cases, the license activation dialog was shown repeatedly. This release fixes that.

Important Notes

Windows Defender SmartScreen Warning

You might see a Windows Defender SmartScreen warning when installing DokuMate manually. This is due to the renewal of our code signing certificate. See “New Code Signing Certificate” below to learn more.

Issues after Updating a Previously Installed Version

Due to a change in the installer, you will, unfortunately, experience issues:

• after an automatic update performed by the DokuMate Updater or
• after manually installing DokuMate v3.7.0 over the previously installed release (e.g., v3.4.1).

For example, some buttons will be greyed out in the DokuMate for Word ribbon tab. To fix or avoid the issues, you simply need to uninstall DokuMate and then perform a fresh install of DokuMate v3.7.0. The files (e.g., templates) you changed will not be uninstalled.

New Functionality

• Find Unused Formatted Definitions in Word. DokuMate for Excel contains powerful functionality related to defined terms. This release adds the capability to find definitions for which there are no occurrences (usages) in any of the tracked documents. This helps you streamline definitions schedules, for example.

Enhanced Functionality

• Transform Narrative Documents with Tracked Changes to ReportCard. This release adds the capability to transform narrative documents with tracked changes (e.g., insertions, deletions) and Word comments (“balloons”) into the ReportCard form (or the simpler tabular form), using the Reduced Tabular Form introduced in the previous release. The transformation exctracts Word comments, notes to draft (i.e., inline comments such as “[Provider: Some comment.]“), and footnotes and inserts them into the Comments column if it exists. This ultimately enables the creation of a NegotiationTracker from narrative documents in a two-step process. The first step is to transform the narrative documents into the ReportCard form. The second step is to create a NegotiationTracker from the ReportCards. As usual, you need to make sure the meta-data (i.e., docId, firstParty, secondParty, and docAuthor) for those documents is accurate.
• NegotiationTracker from Second Party Perspective. Previously, the NegotiationTracker was always produced from the perspective of the first party (e.g., Customer in an outsourcing transaction). With this release, you can choose the party from whose perspective you want to produce the NegotiationTracker, i.e., either the first or the second party (e.g., Provider in an outsourcing transaction).
• Updated Templates. The Word templates no longer use compatibility mode and configures the template not to remove personal information (e.g., the author name and date of Word comments) by default.

Details

New Code Signing Certificate

The Office Add-ins and the DokuMate installer are signed using a code signing certificate. For security reasons, such code signing certificates are only valid for a limited amount of time, e.g., two years. Therefore, every few years, we are using a new code signing certificate. The issue with new certificates is that, when using the certificate for the first time in a new release, the Windows Defender SmartScreen has not seen this certificate before and will therefore warn users with a blue dialog window saying “Windows protected your PC” and “Windows Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk“. You need to click on the “More info” link to see that the installer was signed by “Dr. Thomas Barnekow“. Then, you have to click on “Run anyway” to install DokuMate.

Performing a Fresh Install of DokuMate

After an Automatic Update

An easy way to first uninstall DokuMate and then perform a fresh install is the following:

1. In the Windows search bar (click on magnifier icon in the task bar), enter %AppData%\DokuMate\Updater\Downloads\3.7.0 and hit [Return]. This will open a new File Explorer window, which should now list two files, one of which is DokuMateForOfficeSetup-3.7.0.exe.
2. Double-click that setup file and uninstall DokuMate. Close the dialog once DokuMate is uninstalled successfully.
3. Double-click that setup file again and install DokuMate. Close the dialog once DokuMate is installed successfully.

After a Manual Install of v3.7.0

If you have installed DokuMate v3.7.0 manually, you already have the installer. Simply perform steps 2 and 3 above to uninstall and then install again.

If You Still Have an Older Version and Want to Manually Update to v3.7.0

If you want to update your installation manually, please perform the following steps:

1. Uninstall DokuMate, using the Settings App (select Apps, select DokuMate under Apps & features, and uninstall).
2. Download the installer using this download link.
3. Double-click the installer and follow the instructions.

This minor release introduces enhanced functionality related to the Tabular Form and the NegotiationTracker.

Enhanced Functionality

• Reduced Tabular Form. This release permits a reduced tabular form that only consists of the Reference Number (Ref #) and First Party Position columns. In this form, the second party does not have its own column (as in the “normal” Tabular Form or ReportCard) but directly changes the text in the First Party Position column (in tracked changes mode). Users can corresponding templates by copying the standard Tabular Form template and deleting the Y/N and Second Party Position columns.
• NegotiationTracker for Reduced Tabular Form. The NegotiationTracer has been extended to work with the Reduced Tabular Form. It automatically identifies cells with revision markup (created by editing in tracked changes mode or creating a comparison document) and displays those as usual as the Second Party Position.
• DokuMate Review Feature for Reduced Tabular Form. The functions Propose Change, Accept Left, and Accept Right also work with documents in the Reduced Tabular Form. Propose Change simply turns on the tracked changes mode. Both Accept Left and Accept Right accept the changes in the marked rows.
